Headlining: Andrew Parker-Renga

Genre: Folk singer/songwriter

Andrew Parker-Renga is well known about town as a singer/songwriter as well as the talent buyer/book agent for the Parima acoustic music series. He's long overdue for an appearance at the 'Cake...so come hear his tunes in a different context on Saturday, July 12th.

From APR:

"Believe in yourself, speak your mind, and the rest will follow." Singer/Songwriter, Andrew Parker-Renga wants his voice to be heard and it can't be missed. The Boston Phoenix says "at times it sounds as if he's taken lessons from Sammy Hagar." Though his music sounds more like Damien Rice, Counting Crows or Dashboard Confessional than Van Halen, they all share the same thread, passion. With memorable melodies and honest lyrics, Andrew just simply can't be ignored. His ability to control his dynamics sucks in listeners with songs they call coming of age stories. He has a way capturing the emotion of a moment and recalling it every performance, every recording, every time.

Joining with drummer Ryan Hayes in the fall of 2007, the duo have been writing new material and orchestrating a dynamic set of indie, rock, folk, new genera yet to be named tunes. Hayes' unique style of accompaniment echoes Andrew's emotion blending percussive melodies in the music. The duo are recording an EP slated for release in May of 2008.

After spending a number of years working on his craft in Boston, MA, Andrew now lives in the quiet state of Vermont where he runs a popular songwriters night at Parima Thai in Burlington. "I want the night to be all about the artist," he says in a recent article with the Burlington Free Press. The format is similar to a Nashville round. Musicians together on stage, sharing music with each other and the people. There is a feeling like a community is growing and Andrew is happy to be a part of it.
